There is nothing like a Sicilian breakfast in the sunshine by the pool! I know it’s an outrageous plateful but I couldn’t resist it. Fabulous Almond granita – some of the best almonds in the world are grown on the island and it’s a very typical breakfast here on the coast. Granita is usually eaten with Brioscia con tuppo, a kind of Sicilian brioche, but I went with a Graffa, a traditional Sicilian doughnut, much lighter than the US version and I think more buttery. Every family’s nonna seems to have a slightly different recipe and they’re handed down the generations.
You might think that a croissant has snuck in there, but actually that’s a cornetto. the Sicilian version is shaped liked a horn rather than a crescent and it comes either filled with all sorts of delicious stuff - cornetti ripieni – or unfilled like this one, cornetto semplice, or ‘vuoto’(empty). Finally, no Sicilian breakfast could be complete without the iconic Cannoli, filled with a sweetened ricotta. A tip I was once given was to look for quality Cannoli by the bubbles on the shells.

Mads also delivered the handpainted jackets she`d completed for the crew of Placid Lassie, which was pulling gliders over France on D-Day. Happy #internationalteaday folks! I`ve got a bit of a weakness for interesting teas and love collecting them on my travels - BTW if you`re in the market for some Oolong then the Generic Shop at Beijing Airport is incredibly good value. But here in the UK my tea-home is Fortnums where the Jasmine Dragon Pearls are a bit of an extravagance, but very worthwhile, and condoned by @roger_adamson as long as I buy him some Toffolossus biscuits too. In honour of Tea Day here`s pics of the latest Fortnums haul ready for my trusty Japanese blue Tenshi teapot and glass teacup and saucer, plus a couple of tea memories: Air China`s business class tea menu with its lyrical descriptions of tea, and a not-quite-so-lyrical tea offering from T2 Tea in Suntec, Singapore. Took time out to enjoy some wonderful art and culture in London recently taking in the Frank Auerbach charcoal heads exhibition at the @courtauld plus all their wonderful impressionist and post-impressionist works. Being a former ballerina - well, I almost got into the Royal Ballet School (don`t laugh it`s true) - I could stand and look at a Degas dancer all day, but I`m also fascinated by the early renaissance & medieval art, so I had to lose myself in amongst that incredible collection for a couple hours too.
In a world where we all struggle to find space to pause and reflect there is nothing like some art, history, and the unchanging human condition to give you some perspective - on the past and the future. So find time to go do some culture, people. And if you can get to the Courtauld then you should!

Can`t believe it was one year ago we welcomed a furry lodger - Frank the kitten - into the household. It was supposed to be for 6 weeks... Now Frank pretty much owns the place. He`s built like a tank these days, enjoys a good ratting session, and LOVES having a good sniff around a well-travelled suitcase, so he`s in his element here! A proper character is our Frank and a credit to @leejohngibbs and @world_of_mka Wish they`d keep him off my Eames chair though...grrrrr...
